common questions couples ask
WE ARE AWKWARD AT TAKING PHOTOS. CAN YOU HELP US?
You’re not alone — many of my couples tell me this before their wedding or session.
The good news is that you don’t need to know how to pose. I’ve spent a lot of time studying posing and how to guide couples in a way that feels natural and comfortable. I’ll offer simple direction so you can focus on each other rather than my camera lens.
If you look through my reviews, you’ll see that many clients say they felt comfortable, natural, and even had fun taking photos.
WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO PHOTOGRAPHING WEDDINGS?
My approach balances capturing moments as they naturally unfold with offering gentle guidance when it’s needed. Different parts of a wedding day call for different things.
For example, the ceremony and many moments throughout the day are photographed candidly as they happen. Portraits and family photos benefit from a little direction so everything flows smoothly and looks natural without feeling stiff or overly posed.
Many couples tell me they’re drawn to a photojournalistic style of photography, but in reality most weddings include a blend of candid moments and gently guided portraits.
WILL OUR WEDDING DAY TURN INTO A LONG PHOTOSHOOT?
Not at all. Much of the day is photographed as it naturally unfolds — from getting ready and the ceremony to the moments you share with family and friends.
When it comes time for portraits, I’ll guide you with simple direction so everything feels relaxed and natural rather than stiff or overly posed.
My goal is not to keep you in front of the camera all day. I want you to have beautiful photos to remember your wedding, but just as importantly, I want you to be present.
DO YOU HELP WITH THE WEDDING DAY TIMELINE?
Yes. I’m always happy to help couples think through the timing of the day so everything flows smoothly and there’s enough space for meaningful moments and relaxed portraits.
As part of my services, I include a timeline consultation where we can talk through the schedule together. Even if you already have a planner, couples often look to the photographer for guidance about when portraits happen, when the light is best, and how long different parts of the day typically take for photos.
Having photographed many weddings, I can also help identify the moments where a little extra time for photography can make a meaningful difference in your final gallery.
DO YOU WORK OFF OF A SHOT LIST?
I typically don’t because I have photographed enough weddings to know all the standard shots that one would typically want. Any experienced photographer who knows what their doing will not need a shot list. Plus, if I’m staring at a shot list all day, it’s guaranteed that I’ll be missing real moments. However, I do request a list for family formals and a couple of must-have shots.
DO WE GET ALL THE IMAGES?
Yes, with the exception of images that are duplicate, out of focus, where someone looks awkward or their eyes are closed. This is industry standard. Trust me, you don’t want these.
HOW MANY IMAGES WILL WE GET?
Since every wedding is unique, it’s hard to quote exactly how many images you’ll get. However, past experience has shown about 50-75 images on average per hour of coverage. But here’s the thing about being too focused on the number of images. I’m a big believer in quality over quantity. A gallery of 600 well curated and meaningful images has a lot more wow factor than 1000+ with a bunch of repetitive images thrown in just to justify the photographer’s value.
DO YOU EDIT ALL THE IMAGES?
Yes. Every image you receive is individually edited with careful attention to color, light, and overall consistency so your gallery feels polished and cohesive.
I don’t limit the number of edited images you receive, and each one is thoughtfully selected so your gallery reflects the story and feeling of your day.
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY PHOTOS AND HOW WILL THEY BE DELIVERED?
Turnaround time for sneak peaks is 2 weeks and up to 6 – 8 weeks for the remaining images. Delivery will be from a private online photo gallery that you may share with your friends and on social media. Prints may also be ordered as well.
DO YOU PROVIDE RAW IMAGES?
I don’t provide RAW photos. That would be like asking a writer to hand over their rough draft. Would the Harry Potter series be as good if it was released as a rough draft? RAW images are like a diamond in the rough. They need a little bit of polishing to bring out their beauty. That’s where I come in. Not only are you hiring me to take photographs on your big day but also to apply my talent and skill to the post production process. I carefully go over every photo to make sure I have brought out their full potential. Some photos need more work than others but when the final process is complete and your gallery is presented, they will come out looking like a work of art.
HOW DO WE BOOK?
I email you a contract and an invoice for the retainer. Once everything is signed and your retainer is paid, your wedding date is booked. Remaining balance is due 30 days before the event.
HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD WE BOOK?
Many couples book their photographer 6–12 months in advance, especially for popular dates. That said, availability can vary, so it’s always worth reaching out if you’re interested in working together.
DO YOU HAVE LIABILITY INSURANCE?
Yes and I am happy to provide your venue with a certificate of coverage if needed.
DO YOU HAVE BACK-UP EQUIPMENT?
Absolutely! I wouldn’t dream of photographing someone’s big day without back-up equipment.
WE BOOKED! NOW WHAT?
First of all, we do a little happy dance! Afterward, I’ll be in touch to schedule your engagement session which should be about 3-6 months from your wedding date. I’ll also be checking in on you periodically to see how the wedding planning’s going and answer any questions. And of course, I’m just a phone call away if you need anything.
