A San Diego Courthouse Wedding Day with Variety

Who says a courthouse wedding has to be simple or limited? Vivian and Patrick’s celebration is the perfect example of how beautiful San Diego courthouse wedding photos can look with a little thoughtful planning. Their day blended elegance, ease, and creativity, and their gallery is a lovely showcase of what’s possible when couples want photos that feel both classic and creative.

As a San Diego courthouse wedding photographer, I love helping couples see how much variety and beauty can be woven into a courthouse wedding day with the right locations and a thoughtfully built timeline.

Balboa Park Portraits Before Your San Diego Courthouse Wedding

Before heading downtown for their courthouse ceremony, we met at Balboa Park, just a short drive from the San Diego County Administration Center. It’s one of my favorite spots for couples who want San Diego courthouse wedding photos with a little more variety before the ceremony.

Adding this stop gave Vivian and Patrick even more variety in their gallery and brought a timeless, romantic feel to their images. It was the perfect way to start their wedding day.

A Beautiful Courthouse Wedding Ceremony in San Diego

After our time at the park, we headed to the San Diego Courthouse, where Vivian and Patrick exchanged vows surrounded by family and friends. The courthouse itself offers so many wonderful photo opportunities, both inside and outdoors, which is why it’s such a favorite location for couples planning a courthouse wedding in San Diego.

We made use of the iconic scenic window inside the building — a true highlight for San Diego courthouse wedding photos — and then stepped outside for portraits among palm trees and waterfront views.

One of the best parts of planning a San Diego courthouse wedding is being just steps away from the bay. Vivian and Patrick’s waterfront portraits show how seamlessly city and ocean views can blend together, creating San Diego courthouse wedding photos with even more depth, romance, and variety.

Capturing Courthouse Weddings in San Diego

Courthouse weddings move quickly, and the timing of your appointment can affect lighting, crowd levels, and how smoothly portraits flow afterward. Having photographed many courthouse ceremonies over the years, I’ve learned how to build a timeline that allows couples to enjoy the experience without feeling rushed.

From knowing when the scenic window is most flattering to building in time for waterfront portraits or a stop at Balboa Park, thoughtful planning makes a noticeable difference in how relaxed the day feels — and how natural your photos look.
