Originally conceived in 1915 for the Panama-California Exposition, the Japanese Friendship Garden symbolizes the enduring bond between San Diego and its sister city, Yokohama. Lower Garden

The lower garden spaces offer your guests unrestricted access to the expansive outdoor area, seamlessly blending the beauty of nature with the joy of celebration. Among these spaces are the Earth Bridge & Garden Paths, Pavilion Koi Deck, Courtyard, and The Inamori Pavilion.

Couples have the option to enhance their experience by including the indoor Pavilion as an add-on. With a capacity to accommodate gatherings of up to 150 guests, the Lower Garden ensures ample space for loved ones to share in your special day.

In case of inclement weather, the Koi Deck provides a covered space and can accommodate seating for over 100 chairs, ensuring your event can proceed smoothly regardless of outdoor conditions.

Within the Lower Garden, both the Courtyard and Earth Bridge stand out as idyllic ceremony spots, providing a picturesque setting for exchanging vows amidst nature’s tranquility. Notably, the Earth Bridge features stadium-style seating, ensuring every guest enjoys an unobstructed view of the ceremony.

 

Upper Garden

In the Upper Garden, you’re enveloped in the embrace of a serene canopy of trees and lush greenery, setting a tranquil tone for your ceremony. This ethereal space encompasses scenic spots such as the Koi Pond and Moon Viewing deck, Ceremonial Gates, Fujidana Plaza, and Exhibit Hall. Cost considerations vary depending on the chosen venue within the Japanese Friendship Garden. For the Upper Garden, prices typically range from $900 to $1100 per hour, while the Lower Garden generally falls between $1100 to $1400 per hour. Site fee includes bridal suite and parking.

Minimony packages are available at approximately $3670 providing a budget-friendly option without compromising on the enchanting experience of celebrating amidst the garden’s serene beauty. Availability is from Mon – Thurs for 2 hours.

*Additional fees apply during peak periods such as holidays and cherry blossom season.
